Pistol and Repeater both cover close range, and neither is characterised that way by any source.
This is an absence of evidence rather than EA ruling one out, and the distinction is deliberate on this site. Nobody has said there is no shotgun; they have named four weapon types and none of them is one. If a fifth type appears at launch, this answer changes — a denial would not.
