The short answer
The mission ends. Hawks is the only Operator who cannot permanently die.
In full
What that means when you are planning
That asymmetry is worth building around rather than just knowing. Hawks is the one Operator you can put somewhere genuinely dangerous without risking the roster — the worst case is a failed mission, not a lost character and the Bonds they carried.
It also means his Specialization choice is the safest aggressive pick you have.
What we don't know yet
The game has not been released. These are open questions we have chosen not to guess at.
- Whether Hawks still accumulates Injuries.
- Whether a failed mission carries any lasting penalty.
