The short answer

The player character — a former Republic Army captain who commands Zero Company, and the one Operator you customise from the start.

In full

What that means when you are planning

He was dismissed after a Separatist defeat and injured in the attack on Antine, where Trick was wounded protecting him. Both left the service together and founded Zero Company at the Ring of Kafrene.

Species, first name, appearance, clothing and Specialization are all customisable, and none of it is permanent — species and appearance can be changed later at the Den's customisation station. There are two voices, masculine and feminine, both written as the same world-weary veteran.

Mechanically he is defined by three things: he is required on story missions, he cannot permanently die, and his fixed Talent Fearless Leader gives the whole squad increased assist damage, Defense and hit chance while he is in combat. He is also the only known way to add an Action Point to a turn — 3 Advantage grants an ally one.

What we don't know yet

The game has not been released. These are open questions we have chosen not to guess at.

  • The size of Fearless Leader's three bonuses.
  • Whether the AP grant is limited to once per turn.
  • Whether Hawks' starting weapon is customisable.
