Zero Company high ground explained
Taking high ground improves your hit chance. That makes elevation a positioning objective in its own right, and it is the main reason a long-range Operator spends Action Points moving rather than shooting. How much of a bonus elevation gives has not been published.

Why elevation is worth the AP
Hit chance is the currency of a turn-based tactics game: a missed attack is a wasted turn. High ground improving hit chance means that spending an AP to climb can be worth more than spending it to attack from a worse position.
This matters most for Sharpshooters, whose entire value is landing a decisive shot on a priority target.
The limit
There is no fog of war — enemies are visible from the start. But developers have said that line of sight and mission structure limit pure sniper strategies, which means a high perch is not automatically a winning position.
Missions that require advancing, or that block sightlines, punish a squad that has committed to elevation. This is the confirmed basis for warning against four long-range Operators in one squad.

Planning
What this means for squad building
- Tag builds that want elevation, and warn when too much of a squad depends on it.
- Mission mobility should be evaluated separately from damage — a squad that cannot advance cannot complete timed objectives.
- High ground is a per-map opportunity, so it cannot be guaranteed by a build alone.
