What it needs

In the squad
Assault · Sharpshooter
The builder checks
An Assault and a Sharpshooter in the same squad.

Mechanism

Why it works

The Assault attacks enemies in cover and forces them to reposition, which is the class's stated role rather than a side effect.

Cover is a hit-chance penalty on attacks against it. A Sharpshooter's value is concentrated in single large shots, so it suffers more from a missed one than a class making several attacks does.

An enemy driven out of cover loses the penalty it was imposing. The step this site is adding is that the Assault's displacement is worth aiming specifically at whatever the Sharpshooter intends to shoot.

Cost

What it gives up

The Assault fights at close range and the Sharpshooter at long, so the squad is stretched across the map and neither supports the other defensively.

What we don't know yet

The game has not been released. These are open questions we have chosen not to guess at.

  • How much hit chance cover actually removes, which decides whether this is worth an action.
  • Whether Precision Shot's guaranteed hit ignores cover anyway — if it does, this pairing does nothing for the Sharpshooter's Ultimate.
  • Whether forced repositioning is reliable or a chance.
